Do You Ever Wonder If It’s Possible to Live Out Your Travel Passion?
Do you ever wonder if it’s possible to live out your passion for traveling while soaking up the Mediterranean sun with your partner?
Well, it may feel challenging to live out that passion of travelling to the Mediterranean when you hear your phone buzz and receive a text message from a loved one asking you whether this is the right time to book this trip.
Ask me how I know.
My Experience
A few years ago, I had this very situation happen to me. For as long as I could remember, I had this dream of traveling to Greece. Soon after meeting my partner, it felt like this dream was within reach. I created a healthy balance in my life between work and personal time.
It was a time when I first experienced spaciousness in my calendar and the resources to support this dream coming to fruition after university. It felt like the stars were aligning until I felt this major hurdle when I saw this text message show up on my phone screen.
I felt many things in that moment. What is not surprising is that this moment also reflects the cultural moment that we live in, in the West. The text message that I received reflects the message that we receive in Western culture around waiting for responsible timing.
It often teaches us:
There’s a correct sequence to life
Desire should follow stability, security, and approval
Big, joyful decisions (like travel) need to be justified
So when I finally reached a moment where:
I had space
I had resources
I had a desire ready to be lived
…it actually disrupted this expected order.
How I Lived Out My Passion
What helped me live out my passion of travelling even when faced with this text message from a loved one questioning whether this was the right time to book this trip was dialing up the volume on my intuition and trusting myself.
From a place of dialed up intuition and self-trust, boundaries can be created with greater ease:
Compassionately responding to a loved one’s text message, hearing out their concerns, while still expressing your desire for your decisions to be respected by others.
Booking time off in your calendar from work guilt-free so you can create plans to travel to the Mediterranean for two weeks.
Creating Balance in How You Work
Ultimately, creating balance in how you work requires stepping out of sitting at a desk with your eyes glued to a computer screen until 7pm so you can find that second wind of effervescent energy, ready to bring your passions to life.
This can look like:
Taking a 30-minute to 1-hour lunch break to rejuvenate your energy by sitting in a park, soaking up the radiant energy from the sun, and listening to the peaceful sounds of birds singing in nature.
Setting aside 1-2 hours each week to write, move, feel, create from a more inspired place.
Closing your laptop at 5pm sharp so you can sit with your partner at the kitchen table to look up hotel accommodations and flight tickets to book your dream vacation to the Mediterranean.
